DFO ignores First Nations' right to full disclosure of scientific data in consultation and accommodation
Contrary to First Nations’ right to a fair, good faith, and transparent consultation process nested within the transition planning process, DFO has repeatedly failed to provide requested scientific data to First Nations. Requests for information have been either denied or avoided, leaving First Nations across BC without answers for over 16 months, and hindering the ability to make informed decisions regarding the protection of resources. DFO's lack of transparency is completely unacceptable and contravenes the rights of First Nations to consultation. Such actions seriously undermine the stated objective of rebuilding trust and transparency.
